Titan Medical Inc. (TMDI) on Thursday announced issuance of two U.S. patents that came increasing its global intellectual property portfolio. Currently there have been holding 58 patents and application for 84 patents are in process of issuance. Titan is a medical device company that provides the health care industry with designing and developing of single-port robotic technologies for surgical procedures.
The company is also in receipt of 17 allowance notices in 17 of its patent applications. In view of those notices, company is expecting patent issuance within few months.
The recent patent issuances include U.S. Patent No. 10,772,703 bearing title “Methods and apparatuses for positioning a camera of a surgical robotic system to capture images inside a body cavity of a patient during a medical procedure”. It is aimed at automatic camera positioning to respond the position of a surgical instrument. Other patent issued is U.S. Patent No. 10,758,311 titled “Hand controller apparatus for gesture control and shared input control in a robotic surgery system.” It has been developed as a novel hand controller aligned with an integrated pad to control motion. It will be used to manage one or more robotic functions which also include controlling the integrated camera.
The notices of allowance received by the company are for different features of robotic surgery like related instruments, visual illumination, autonomous error correction, sterile barriers, graphical user interfaces and imaging sensors. The notices allow the use of those in different countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, Japan and China.
President and CEO of Titan Medical Inc. David McNally praised company’s Vice President of Legal, IP and Strategic Initiatives Jasminder Brar for his intellectual property efforts. McNally said that Brar’s leadership and foresightedness in creation of an intellectual property strategy brought significant value for the stakeholders.
